About

I started relief print making three years ago with the intention of using my wildlife photographs as inspiration for linocut designs. The range of subjects was expanded through the process of working on a collaborative project with a local poet. This project resulted in a series of prints which reflect the industrial heritage of Ironbridge Gorge and which led to my developing an interest in landscape.

My working method involves using my own photographs to produce a draft design which is then translated into a paint and ink study. If this works, the study is then traced onto the lino block and the process of cutting the lino begins. It is important to me that the design is based on what I have observed. For example, the railway series of prints are all based on scenes I have witnessed and photographed. More recently, I have been developing the use of colour through the process of reduction print making.

I am very fortunate in receiving a great deal of advice and support from other print makers in the Ironbridge Gorge area. This help has enabled me to develop my technique.
